Louisiana State University
August 2016-Present
Bachelors of Science, Industrial Engineering
Ogden Honors College
GPA: 4.22
Courses of Note
Classes that have added to my arsenal of industrial engineering skills
IE 4530
Lean Manufacturing
In this course I learned about the original lean system, the Toyota Production System (TPS). We also covered queuing theory and statistical analysis of input data.
How I've used it
Using Simio, a simulation software, I am modeling the current system of transporting patients to the imaging department at Our Lady of the Lake hospital for my senior design project.
IE 4425
Information Systems
I practiced using a variety of software in this course, including SAP, Tableau, Access, and R Studio. More importantly, I learned how databases are structured, which I can apply to future projects.
How I've used it
While working for Anheuser-Bush I applied the skills from this class by building a program in SAS that pulled and analyzed data from Oracle and SQL Server.
PSYC 3050
Industrial & Organizational Psychology
Covering organizational structures, personnel selection techniques, evaluation styles, and much more, this course introduced me to how people enter into, compose, interact with, and leave an organization.
How I've used it
I wrote a research paper for this course about job crafting, an emerging phenomenon where employees will slightly adjust the responsibilities of their job to fit their interests.
IE 4461
Human Factors
In this course I learned about ergonomics, including proper design of employee workstations, safe work environments, and efficient controls displays.
How I've used it
I completed an experiment in this course with some classmates about the effect of sleep on physical and mental abilities. In addition, I'm using this course to design optimal forms for senior design.
IE 4453
Quality Control & Six Sigma
This course discussed the structure, construction, and statistics behind a variety of different control charts. I also learned how to apply them to reduce process variety
How I've used it
I am constructing control charts to monitor the patient transfer process at Our Lady of the Lake with hopes of developing a more accurate prediction of when patients will be transported.
IE 2060
Intro to Computers
I learned the programming language C# in this course. More importantly though, I learned how to approach the logic of coding, which has made learning subsequent languages far easier.
How I've used it
For this class I built a point of service (POS) system with a classmate of mine for an online rainboot store. Our program includes customer and employee windows.
IE 2400
Methods & System Engineering
An introduction to a wide array of data collection techniques and process mapping tools, I learned everything from how to complete a time study to line balancing in this course.
How I've used it
The skills from this course were integral for my co-op at a concrete manufacturer. While I used these tools in all my projects, one excellent example is my OSHA silica compliance project.
IE 3302 &
IE 4362
Statistics
Between these two courses, I learned everything from common distributions to how to complete an multi-variable linear regression. I also used ANOVAs, T-tests, and non-parametric analysis.
How I've used it
I have used statistics in many of the other projects and courses listed here, but a prime example is my analysis of data in my research poster about community paramedicine.
IE 3520 &
IE 4520
Supply Chain
This course discussed manually analysis of common supply chain and optimization research problems. For example, I solved for the critical path and optimal stocking plans.
How I've used it
The culmination of this course sequence was a real world problem analysis. I worked with another student to find the optimal ordering scheme in the LSU MIE department.
